Josh Moody Thoughts On…

Work

Why are people from the advertising and marketing world joining social causes?

From my perspective, it’s a way for creatives to use their “powers” for good. We’re not doctors, but being able to help draw attention to social causes and help better humanity is important and a way for us to be able to help do good in the world.

What do you do for fun and what would you be doing if it wasn’t advertising?

Music. I play bass in a band, and if I had to do something that wasn’t in our industry, I’d be working my ass off to be a professional musician.

What advice would you give to anyone trying to make it in the marketing world?

Look at trends, research, and figure out what you like to do best. It’s valuable in the industry today to be a “jack of all trades”, but being able to keep a focus on something that you love and that you excel at is incredibly rewarding and a great way to make sure you keep loving what you do.

It’s Thursday, you’ve got to be at a project in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday. Your flight and hotel are booked; your visa is ready. What are the top five things you do before you leave?

  1. Make sure my cats are taken care of
  2. Make a list of things I need to take with me
  3. Charge my iPad, and make sure I’ve downloaded a few Netflix shows and audiobooks for the flight
  4. Pack my suitcase
  5. Make sure I have everything ready for the projectjosh moody wilderness agency

What motivates you and what doesn’t?

I’m motivated most by knowing that I’ve done my best to help people around me, whether that’s clients, friends, family, etc. I’m unmotivated by people that go out of their way to be rude or unappreciative for help.

If you met with a client and that person had his or her arms attached backward, how would you greet him or her?

Definitely not a high five. Elbow bump?

What is the worst question to ask, or answer, in an interview?

“What’s your greatest weakness?” – There, in my opinion, is not an honest or valuable answer to this question. “My greatest weakness is that I’m going to work too hard for your company”.

How did people ever get anything done without the existence of websites and Google?

Slowly, via libraries and phone calls.

How does the internet work?

It’s just a big bunch of tubes that resemble water slides. Al Gore set it all up for us, so I’m grateful to him.

Family

What’s your favorite story about your family or your pet?

I once spent a day tracking down a chipmunk that our family cat caught and released into our house. It was a hassle, but I got to pet a chipmunk, and that was pretty dope.

How would you live your life if you had a week to live?

With as much love and interaction to the people around me that have made the biggest difference in my life.

What was the last gift you gave someone?

A bottle of liquor to a friend that moved into a new place.

What did you play with as a child?

Power rangers, ninja turtles, and plenty of PS2.

Who is your role model, and why?

Ryan Reynolds – he’s so cool and handsome, and just seems like such a genuinely good dude.

Philosophy

Where do you find peace?

Quiet moments. Sometimes in nature, sometimes at home, sometimes in a crowded space by myself.

Would you rather walk backward for the rest of your life, or stub your toe with every step you took? Explain your choice.

Walk backward – It seems like I’d end up in pain a lot less in that scenario.

How would you live your life if you were going to live forever?josh moody creative director

Dangerously.

Do you believe in Bigfoot?

Yeah sure, why not?

If there was a movie produced about your life, what would it be called? Who would play you, and why?

Good Duck: The Josh Moody Story. I’d imagine Jason Bateman would play me because his sense of humor just tickles my funny bone.

If you could only eat one kind of food for the rest of your life what would you choose? Why?

Chipotle. It rarely disappoints, there are options to change it up, and I haven’t managed to get sick of it yet.

What’s something that grosses you out that other people would find weird?

Canned tuna. It’s gross, nobody should eat that garbage. And sauerkraut, same reason.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?

Tang, like the orange astronaut drink.

Out of all the internet fads out there (TikTok Dances, Youtubers, Facebook avatars, etc), which did you hate the most?

Planking. That was never funny to me.

Would you rather know without a doubt the purpose and direction of your life or never have to worry about money for the rest of your life?

I guess money, but that seems kind of gross. But so far, my life has been nothing but twists and turns, and knowing what was on the horizon would have made for a much less interesting experience.

Richard Kaiser

Some of my fondest memories from my formative years were from Boy Scout camps sitting on rough, wooden logs that encircled a crackling fire sharing stories with the other boys. I believe in my heart that it is a human need to be told stories. We crave stories much in the same way we crave love. The work we do at Wilderness Agency is based upon this primal need. We bring together some of the best creative talent from around the world to tell our client’s stories, to share their passion with the world.
