Inside Look – Caleb Terry

Caleb began his career as a designer, but discovered his passion for technology as he gained experience and expanded his knowledge of all things digital. He is an artist by trade but thrives as the technology coordinator for Wilderness Agency.

He is the man behind the scenes making sure all systems go and function; that offices keep running and websites keep working.

He is more than just our tech-savvy Captain Kirk – he has a soft spot for cats, loves to illustrate and game with his wife. Life is about balance, and Caleb somehow balances it all for us.

WORK

Why are people from the advertising and marketing world joining social causes?

To change the world from the government(s) that have fucked it up because of money.

What do you do for fun and what would you be doing if it wasn’t advertising?

I play video games for fun and relaxation. I’ve always wanted to be in graphic arts. If I wasn’t in advertising I would hone my illustration skills more and do more traditional media.

What advice would you give to anyone trying to make it in the ad world?

Get caught up on as much sleep as you can. Stay hungry.

What is your hidden talent and how did you discover it?

The hidden talent of being able to think through networks and how they are connected/how to connect them. I have a thirst for technical knowledge.

It’s Thursday, you’ve got to be at a project in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday. Your flight and hotel are booked; your visa is ready. What are the top five things you do before you leave?

Work on client work till Saturday night
Pack bag with clothes

Pack backpack with computer and power adapters if needed

Make sure portable batteries are charges

Make sure I have everything I need to present to the client for the project.

What motivates you and what doesn’t?

Disappointment motivates me and crushes me at the same time.

If you met with a client and that person had his or her arms attached backward, how would you greet him or her?

I would reach out with my hand to greet them, feel like an asshole, then pull my hand away and laugh nervously then nod and say hello.

What is the worst question to ask, or answer, in an interview?

What are your strengths? I hate praising myself.

How did people ever get anything done without the existence of websites and Google?

People assumed information because they watched TV for their news about the world.

How does the internet work?

Magic and Coding.

FAMILY

What’s the story about your family or your cat?

I met my cat about 11 months ago and just had an immediate connection with him, so he came home with us and has terrorized us ever since. But I love him.

How would you live your life if you had a week to live?

I would spend every minute with Felicia and would not let her go.

What was the last gift you gave someone?

I purchased Felicia some new makeup that she told me she wanted.

What did you play with as a child?

Legos.

Where do you find peace?

In bed, with Felicia cuddled up in my arms.

Who is your role model, and why?

Right now, my role model is my Father. He’s an honest man with a good work ethic.

PHILOSOPHICAL

Would you rather walk backward for the rest of your life, or stub your toe with every step you took? Explain your choice.

Backward because sooner or later it will just become second nature like walking forward is now.

How would you live your life if you were going to live forever?

Just like I am now. I am 25, I am going to live forever.

Agree or disagree: The Grateful Dead was a terrible band.

Agree.

Do you believe in Bigfoot?

Nah.

If there was a movie produced about your life, what would it be called? Who would play you, and why?

“How can I help” starring Chris Pratt, because he’s beautiful.

If you could only eat one kind of food for the rest of your life what would you choose? Why?

I would choose Thai food because I have found it to be incredible in flavor and taste.

What’s something that grosses you out that other people would find weird?

The feeling of styrofoam rubbing on my skin or on other styrofoam grosses me out.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?

Another black Crayon because that is always the first color to go.

Out of all the internet fads out there (Gangam Style, Rebecca Black, Harlem Shake, etc), which did you hate the most?

Dabbing.

Would you rather know without a doubt the purpose and direction of your life or never have to worry about money for the rest of your life?

Never worry about money because then I can plot the course that I want. I prefer not having everything planned out in life.

Written by: Richard Kaiser

Some of my fondest memories from my formative years were from Boy Scout camps sitting on rough, wooden logs that encircled a crackling fire sharing stories with the other boys. I believe in my heart that it is a human need to be told stories. We crave stories much in the same way we crave love. The work we do at Wilderness Agency is based upon this primal need. We bring together some of the best creative talent from around the world to tell our client’s stories, to share their passion with the world.
