When Brent Wagener connected with the Wilderness Agency, he had just started a new business, but, in truth, Wines with Wagener was barely beyond the idea stage.

Brent is a wine expert and a wine lover. He worked in the industry for 35 years, selling, marketing, importing, and learning about wine for the Heidelberg Distributing Co., a family-owned business serving Ohio and Kentucky. Brent had retired from Heidelberg but not from wine when we met him.

If You Deal with Wine, Deal with Wines with Wagener

He started Wines with Wagener because he remained passionate about wine. His goal is to share his knowledge and passion for wine with restaurants, private clients, and the general public, making it enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their experience level. Through wine tastings, food pairings, and cellar recommendations, Brent has a talent for helping people fully appreciate the wine they have in front of them, whether it’s an inexpensive chardonnay or a luxurious cabernet sauvignon.

He had a few clients lined up when he started, culled from personal connections. But to be profitable, he needed an effective way to tell his story more broadly. He needed to connect with an audience outside of personal relationships and to let people know that if they dealt with wine, they should deal with Wines with Wagener.

Strategy Always Comes Before Design

That’s when the Wilderness Agency got involved and did what we do best: we got to know Brent Wagener. Brent is friendly, generous, and a natural storyteller. His expertise in wine is deep and sophisticated, but his approach is enthusiastic and fun. As much as he knows about vintages and varieties, he knows something more important: wine is social. It pairs best with food, family, and friends.

To help tell his story, the Wilderness Agency designed a logo, built a website, and created a full line of marketing collateral, including business stationery and wine-tasting cards, as well as a plan for a social media presence – that not only presents what Brent is trying to do with Wines with Wagener but also captures who he is.

From the logo to the website to the upcoming social media strategy, prospective clients will see that engaging Brent for a wine tasting would be extraordinarily informative and fun. Wine expertise need not be stiff or snobby.

Wines with Wagener is still a young business, but it’s evolved into more than just a good idea. And we’re proud to have helped Brent communicate his message and start reaching a wider audience. To find out how we can help your business grow, check out our Creative & Marketing Services webpage.
